Work on one section each day. Or maybe each weekend. As the old folks used to say, by the yard it’s hard; by the inch, it’s a cinch.

As you go through your things, consider creating three piles.

Treasure:  The treasure pile is where you put the things you really want to keep. That letter jacket from high school barely fits now, but if it brings back good memories and you can’t bear to part with it, it’s a treasure.

Trade:  Those things that are still in working order or usable but you don’t need or want them, go into the trade pile. Whether these things wind up in a garage sale, your friend’s garage or at Goodwill, you are trading them for the peace of mind that goes along with reclaimed space and a job well done.
